Swedish Massage  -  Deep Tissue Massage  -  Trigger Point Massage  -  Sports Massage  -  Reflexology

Swedish Massage: Swedish massage is the style that comes to mind when most people think about massage. It was developed in Stockholm and is the most common and best-known form of massage performed today. The goal is relaxing the entire body and is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood flow returning to the heart. Additional techniques include the firm kneading percussion-like tapping, bending, stretching and circular pressure applied to the hands and palms. Swedish massage is exceptional for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscular toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.

Deep Tissue Massage: While similar to Swedish massage, deep tissue massage is used to target knots and release chronic muscle tension. Deep Tissue Massage reduces inflammation, with a focus on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia Deep tissue massage uses strokes across the grain of the muscle, as opposed to with it as in Swedish massage. Deep finger pressure may be slightly uncomfortable and cause soreness, which may last a couple of days before the desired relaxation is achieved and the pain is relieved.

Trigger Point Massage: A trigger point is an area with a muscle that causes pain and other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back for example may generate pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point may then cause pain in the head. Trigger points are caused by muscle overuse or injury. The pain can be commonly mistaken for arthritis. Trigger point massage is designed to alleviate the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and the results are the elimination of toxins in the muscle and the release of energizing endorphins. A significant decrease in pain is often found after just one treatment.

Sports Massage: Sports massage is geared toward athletes. The particulars of the massage are specified to the athlete’s specific sport of choice. Sports massage can be used as a means to enhance performance and reduce recovery time. This massage promotes flexibility, removes fatigue, improves endurance and prevents injuries. This will prepare the athlete to compete at their absolute best.

Reflexology: Reflexology is a branch of massage that focuses solely on the hands and feet. Originally developed as zone therapy, reflexology specifically targets points on extremities to send signals to the brain and balance the nervous system. This massage stretches and moves the hands and feet applying pressure on reflex areas that correspond to specific organs and other body parts. Reflexology has been known to provide relief from ailments such as tension headaches, arthritis, digestive issues and back pain.
